The 32:07 Project & 2006 Record Run required a Herculean level of research, and the timely advent of Google Earth allowed for a heretofore impossible level of remote surveying of road conditions, traffic choke points, elevation and neighboring terrain. The use of multiple Garmin GPS units - each recording a section of our tracks cross-country - and these tracks’ seemless export into Google Earth, greatly simplified post-run analysis. The embedding of additional content also enables the layperson to follow our path while grasping both our story and the geographic scale of our quest.

Below is merely the first of the numerous Google Earth KML files we will be releasing each week for the next three months, detailing all three of the 32:07 Project Runs, the full history of Team Polizei’s Gumball 3000 & Bullrun tracks, and a densely packed tour of our 2000-2001 runs around Manhattan.

Each file will launch as a V.9 Beta, with additional content added - including video - as time and improving functionality allow. Clicking on any active graphic or link will download the related KMZ file, which will automatically launch in Google Earth.

If you don’t have it, please download Google Earth for free.

Wired has also posted their own article and links.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we did creating them.
