Still hot from the buzz created by the geo-broadcast of Team Polizei’s I-80 in 40 run, Seero recently got some love from Wired’s Autopia blog for their GPS map of the chase scene in Bullitt, arguably, the best car chase scene in cinematic history. Car movie buffs can now follow the exact same route as McQueen’s flying Mustang turn for turn, jump for jump. No word yet on when the French Connection or Ronin maps will be coming out, however, someone tried to map out Rendezvous.

Here it is. Above? The World’s Most Infamous Google kml map file, exported from Earth into Maps. (WARNING - you MUST download Google Earth in order to view the .kml file!) Entitled "Infographic & Validation (V.9)" - this is the same .kml we and Wired.com posted in October 2007 when "The Driver" was released, and shows various milestones our 31:04 Cross Country Run. Enjoy this…just a little tiny taste of what’s coming soon. Very soon, and I’m not merely talking about "32 Hours 7 Minutes"…

For everyone who’s been asking for me to update our Press page with everything that’s run in recent months, here you go. And yes, I know Letterman hasn’t happened…but a little bird told me something.
Anyway, I still need to cross-link the (temporarily orphaned page of) reviews for "The Driver" and our as-yet updated video links, but 95% of the U.S. links are there. Europe is coming soon.

Almost. Although Team Polizei’s 144A/B M5 Interceptors possess far more technology than installed in this fine Holden, we have yet to install the (as-yet unecessary for our purposes) Starcatch or Platescan systems. (Don’t forget to check out the cool pc Wired wrote about the LAPD’s deployment of plate recognition gear back in 06…)

I totally agree with "Design Guru" Don Norman’s opinion piece over at Businessweek. Modern cars are getting quieter, their controls and feedback more remote, as is drivers’ awareness that the machines in which they place so much faith remain subject to the laws of physics.
Alas, physics is a hard mistress. Perhaps critics of the 31:04 Transcontinental Run will come to understand that focus & alertness can make 100+mph safer whilst a careless 35mph can kill.
I’ve just ordered Norman’s book, The Design of Future Things

Truth is stranger than fiction. Valentine Research - makers of the vaunted V1 Radar/Laser Detector in uninterrupted use by yours truly since its initial release in 1992 - chose, in a highly appreciated yet unexpected move, to use a (long-forgotten) quote of mine in what someone at their office with a sense of humor must consider an expert/celebrity(!?) endorsement of the V1’s supremacy.
See for yourself on page 19 of the January issue of Automobile Magazine…

Amazing. I’ve…er…made it into Wikipedia. LOL. I recall someone creating a Wiki page for me a few years ago, but Wikipedia’s ever watchful volunteers deemed me - as per their necessary but occasionally arbitrary policy - "not sufficiently noteworthy" at the time.
They were probably right, at least according to my mom.

The New York Times has just posted David Shaftel’s article on our Transcontinental Record Run, also covered in great detail in Wired and Jalopnik here and here. Shaftel was kind enough to mention my book "The Driver" - which covers the run in great detail, for those un-offended by our quest…
