Something HUGE is brewing at Top Gear, and I’m NOT talking about the confusion over at NBC’s we-hope-will-be-even-half-as-good-as-the-UK-version-but-can’t-be US version of Top Gear.
And we’ve seen Top Gear’s smoking gun pitch. Yes. That is, if it’s real. I think it is. Maybe. Probably.
Think Top Gear on ice. Almost. Yes. It’s true.

Team Polizei’s old friend (and Fast Lane Daily honcho) Emil Rensing was kind enough to share this debrief on Speed Racer’s weekend results…

Polizei M5 144B was attacked by New York’s infamously skilled car thieves last night whilst briefly parked on the street. Yes. I’m an idiot, but I’ve parked 144A and B - fully stickered - on numerous streets in dozens of countries throughout the world, and never had a problem.
144B won, of course, surviving with only a broken passenger window, a well-abused yet-still-functional ignition cylinder, and the loss of but two of its four Garmin GPS units.
Given the surreal deterrent effect our Polizei livery has had on both law enforcement and civilians in the past, I’ve been grappling with the psychology of these particular thieves. The questions:

Remember this unbelievable story from last December? If not, you’ll want to brush up on those pesky, election-rigging Gumballers, with their sports cars and bags of cash and submachine guns. Once familiar with the backstory of 2006’s Team 77 and 2007’s Team 25, read this here update from The Wall Street Journal (via Salon), amusingly entitled "The Satanic PowerBar"…er…I meant "The Devil’s Excrement."
Really.
And yes, that yellow Carrera GT is the same one that was wrecked in Montenegro…a mere five days after the picture above was taken.

CNN reports on this horrific street racing accident, where 60+ approving bystanders allegedly spilled onto a road to watch two cars drag race on a foggy night.
A white sedan then appeared out of the fog. Eight people were killed.
However much anyone may critique Team Polizei’s 31:04 Record Run, we spend 100+ hours on preparation for each hour spent in-car.
Street racers and their victims spend weeks, months - if not the rest of their lives - paying the price for every minute spent in-car.
This senseless tragedy proves once again why - every time one turns the ignition - one should consider how deadly a car can be at any speed, and why kids should stick to Playstation. (Hey, I still play.)

Tow truck driver John Montalvo had a contract to tow illegaly-parked cars from the Atlantic Terminal Mall in Brooklyn, NY. Police officers, while not serving and protecting, often parked their personal vehicles on one of the mall’s private roads, so Montalvo towed them. Since then, according to his lawyer, officers mistreated and arrested the tow truck driver on trumped up (and later dropped) charges of car theft. So now, Montalvo’s suing them.

TTAC’s Andrew Dederer posits BMW’s fall from grace…a sensitive topic for yours truly. Although Chris Bangle is clearly a mole whose activation (by some unknown foe) wrecked havoc on BMW’s once-perfect design language, I still have faith in the company that built this.
