"The Driver" will finally be released in the UK this Thursday, January 10th, with a highly-flattering-to-yours truly, very Steve McQueen-esque cover image. I’ll be heading over there in a couple of weeks for the first stage of my UK tour, starting in London at the very end of the month. Details to follow, along with more updates to the reviews flowing in…

Team Polizei Wallpaper #17 (yes, I know they’ve gone from daily to weekly to nearly bi-weekly!) is Polizei E39 Meets Ronin E34. Haven’t seen John (the best car director of all time) Frankenheimer’s Ronin? Watch it…big…ASAP. The white E34 M5 is courtesy of Team Polizei’s new friend Brian Eyerman - who just posted this review of "The Driver" - and whose Ronin plate is only visible when he selectively removes his CA tags. Cool. Very, very cool.
Here it is in hi-rez, along with the rest of Team Polizei’s official wallpapers!

Rory Camangian - formerly of Spike TV, a three-time(?) Bullrun veteran, former co-pilot of Fast Lane Daily’s Emil Rensing, an automotive industry man-about in New York & LA, and a man who also appears in my book at a critical moment, has written quite a thoughtful and unbiased review of "The Driver" based on his far-superior-to-major-media knowledge of the history of cross country racing.
Now if only he had mention Cory Welles‘ upcoming documentary on the topic, "32 Hours 7 Minutes" just once. Just once.
Thanks, Rory
Adventurous Uber Mega-blogger and author Tim Ferriss interviewed me yesterday, and the podcast has gotten a lot of feedback. Check it out here, as I will be responding to the comments through the night…
It’s hard to believe, but true. "The Driver" has been Amazon’s #1 book in the Racing and Motorsports categories since coming out nearly two weeks ago, (The reviews have been really good…;-) Why doesn’t B&N break out in-category sales rankings this precisely?)
But…the far more flattering surprise has been being #5 among Sports Biographies…a far more competitive field of battle. I’ve seen "The Driver" fluctuate among the latter - as high as #2 and as low as #11 - all of which is extraordinarily gratifying given some of the other books in the Top 10. Jon Krakauer and Lance Armstrong…pretty good company. Ironically, I saw Armstrong - perhaps as tenacious an athelete as Alex Zanardi - finish the New York City Marathon today. I doubt I’ll ever be quite that fit. After 31:04, the current book tour and the upcoming 32:07 film tour, I may become a NYC public school teacher. Seriously. I’d like to teach English. Or History. 20th Century. Really. If they won’t have me, I wonder if they’d accept me as a pro-bono driving instructor.
Now that would be funny.
Thanks to everyone who’s purchased and supported "The Driver" so far. I’ll start naming names and sending out something better than the usual tchotchkes once the first leg of the tour is over in December, right before the second U.S. leg begins…
The first major print press for "The Driver" has landed in short peice in the November issue of Esquire. It’s not yet online, but if you buy the print version, you’ll see it on Page 54. Big thanks to Team Polizei’s old friend Ezra Dyer, with whom I drove the Bentley GTC and beat Fedex last December for Automobile Magazine.
Much more is coming Tuesday and Wednesday. Big surprises are coming…

Above: Team Polizei Master Piloten David Maher’s Pavlovian response to "The Driver" surprises none aware of his depiction within. Below: AI Design Owner Matt Figliola & "32 Hours, 7 Minutes" Director Cory Welles also react as expected.

The first galleys of "The Driver" arrived at my apartment Friday, and after distributing my handful of copies to Team Polizei’s highly literary staff…well…the reviews are best summed up by the pictures above.
