In The Name of The Transporter!

Jason Statham’s CoEfficient of Cool (CEoC) was - as established in The Transporter 1 & The Italian Job, and despite The Transporter 2 (and soon 3), and the upcoming craptastifest Death Race - perhaps as high as a .75, which is quite high. I rate McQueen a 1, and Clive Owen a .9. (Yes, The Driver series is that good.) Why’s Statham rate so high IMHO? The man’s a former Olympic diver who does most of his own stunts and combat scenes, he has a shaved head, and he was - yes, was - my dream choice to play a certain cross-country driver who also happens to have a shaved head.

Yes. I know it sounds insane, but I’m an action/sci-fi/car movie fanboy at heart, and I just so happened to have been lucky enough to write a book with a little bit of car action that some people want to see made into a movie.

So why did I say was? Well, Statham’s CEoC just took a hit, and I’m more than a little disappointed. I know the bills need to be paid, but was this really necessary?

The World’s Coolest Firetruck. Design.

IO9 brings us this awesome rendering of a future fire truck by Harold Belker for the on-again/off-again new new film version of Ray Bradbury’s classic Fahrenheit 451. The pic is the story, really. It’s just cool.

Alex Roy’s The Driver UK Release January 10th!

"The Driver" will finally be released in the UK this Thursday, January 10th, with a highly-flattering-to-yours truly, very Steve McQueen-esque cover image. I’ll be heading over there in a couple of weeks for the first stage of my UK tour, starting in London at the very end of the month. Details to follow, along with more updates to the reviews flowing in…

Team Polizei Wallpaper of the…er…Week #17!

Team Polizei Wallpaper #17 (yes, I know they’ve gone from daily to weekly to nearly bi-weekly!) is Polizei E39 Meets Ronin E34. Haven’t seen John (the best car director of all time) Frankenheimer’s Ronin? Watch itbig…ASAP. The white E34 M5 is courtesy of Team Polizei’s new friend Brian Eyerman - who just posted this review of "The Driver" - and whose Ronin plate is only visible when he selectively removes his CA tags. Cool. Very, very cool.

Here it is in hi-rez, along with the rest of Team Polizei’s official wallpapers!

Hummer of Love - The H1 Alpha Storm Chaser…For Sale!

Before I get into how much I love this thing, let’s be clear. I’m not an SUV guy. Most SUV’s handle terribly, and accident statistics show how often they are driven by people who don’t know it. Personal observation also suggests most of them don’t need them, but hey, it’s a free country. If I had to buy one, some are obviously better than others. The Cayenne. The Toureg. The Range Rover. The X5.

But none of them are remotely as cool as this Hummer H1 Alpha - custom-modified as a Storm Chaser. And it’s for sale.

If you haven’t read "The Driver", I’ll let you in on a secret. We at Team Polizei like to think outside the box…the Polizei uniform box, that is, which is why - on our final cross-country run in October 2006 - we didn’t merely strip the Polizei M5 of our traditional livery. We re-liveried as Storm Chasers, and although we were lucky enough never to have to resort to what little Storm Chaser knowledge we studied prior to departure, let me tell you, the mere thought of encountering a real tornado made me realize how hilariously bizarre a Storm Chasing M5 must have looked.

You want to see balls?

Team Polizei Wallpaper of the…er…Week #16!

Team Polizei Wallpaper #16…for your amusement, I created this comically doctored window invoice sticker for "The Driver" book tour, which is now available (slightly cropped) as a desktop wallpaper. Read the fine print. Enjoy.

Amazon’s #1 Book In Racing AND Motorsports is…

It’s hard to believe, but true. "The Driver" has been Amazon’s #1 book in the Racing and Motorsports categories since coming out nearly two weeks ago, (The reviews have been really good…;-) Why doesn’t B&N break out in-category sales rankings this precisely?)

But…the far more flattering surprise has been being #5 among Sports Biographies…a far more competitive field of battle. I’ve seen "The Driver" fluctuate among the latter - as high as #2 and as low as #11 - all of which is extraordinarily gratifying given some of the other books in the Top 10. Jon Krakauer and Lance Armstrong…pretty good company. Ironically, I saw Armstrong - perhaps as tenacious an athelete as Alex Zanardi - finish the New York City Marathon today. I doubt I’ll ever be quite that fit. After 31:04, the current book tour and the upcoming 32:07 film tour, I may become a NYC public school teacher. Seriously. I’d like to teach English. Or History. 20th Century. Really. If they won’t have me, I wonder if they’d accept me as a pro-bono driving instructor.

Now that would be funny.

Thanks to everyone who’s purchased and supported "The Driver" so far. I’ll start naming names and sending out something better than the usual tchotchkes once the first leg of the tour is over in December, right before the second U.S. leg begins…
