Apparently, no, some people don’t have anything better to do. And, yes, as a species, humans are devolving.
Some mis-guided cro-mags are taking their anger out on the environmentally conscious by attacking Priuses, which is a complete 180 from what eco terrorists like the Earth Liberation Front did to some Hummers in California. While one may find it hard to agree with the means by which the ELF made their statements against Hummers, it’s even more difficult to understand the rationale (or lack thereof) of the Prius attackers. Would this mean they’re against efforts to reduce global warming and oil dependence and are hoping for the post-Peak Oil collapse to come sooner?

Seems logical that Cali would have the most speed traps (according to speedtrap.org) as they’re the most-populated and have tons of roads. The rest of the top 10 fall into the similar population-to-area ratio. In descending order after Cali, the most speed traps are in Texas, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, NY, Ohio, NJ, Pennsylvania and Georgia. South Dakota, which is near the bottom, also has the city considered the safest to drive in, which is Sioux Falls, according to Allstate Insurance. You probably won’t be finding many of Jalopnik’s Top Ten Real Life Car Chases coming from that state.

Given the story above, this past weekend’s tragic Ocala M5 accident and various remarks sent my way since the 31:04 NY-LA Run, it’s been hard to keep a silent, straight face when it comes to road safety…then I read The Truth About Cars’ piece linked above.
I love TTAC. Jalopnik is snarky. Autoblog is newsy. But TTAC editorializes on serious topics without irony, and sometimes hits home so honestly, so clearly, that the logic of an argument can only be made clear by staring at pictures like those above, reading the story behind it, then starting at the picture once again.
As I did, after which I returned to ponder TTAC’s editorial on safety:

TTAC is pointing the way toward some terrible truths many have yet to face, but first, the short version of their story…

January 17, 2005 - I was driving on Rte. 206 N between Bedminster and Chester, NJ. It was freezing. The temperature range for this particular Martin Luther King holiday saw a low of 17 and a high of 24 degrees. Conventional wisdom would have prevented me from driving my very heavily modified 1979 Porsche type 930 (911 Turbo) out of its normally garaged location, but I had taken the car out the previous day and gotten caught nearby at a friends house just as snow flurries started to fall. I decided to take my chances, stay overnight night and drive back home the following day when the sun was out.
