People who knew Serena Sutton-Smith said she had a history of erratic behavior. The 54 year-old bartender emerged from a side road without stopping, nearly causing an accident with Paula Small. Small then pulled over to speak with Sutton-Smith and while Small was getting out of her car, Sutton-Smith rammed her Vauxhall Nova into Small’s Fiat Punto and then kept her foot on the accelerator.
Apparently, no, some people don’t have anything better to do. And, yes, as a species, humans are devolving.
Some mis-guided cro-mags are taking their anger out on the environmentally conscious by attacking Priuses, which is a complete 180 from what eco terrorists like the Earth Liberation Front did to some Hummers in California. While one may find it hard to agree with the means by which the ELF made their statements against Hummers, it’s even more difficult to understand the rationale (or lack thereof) of the Prius attackers. Would this mean they’re against efforts to reduce global warming and oil dependence and are hoping for the post-Peak Oil collapse to come sooner?

Perhaps this trucker mis-interpreted the meaning of EZ Pass. When asked later about his disappearing plate, the trucker said he didn’t know anything about it. Apparently the wire (that was connected to the hinged plate) that stuck out of the cigarette lighter socket didn’t seem out of place. He would probably still be using it had it not been for a Port Authority cop driving alonside him.

Even though photo ticketing is illegal in Florida, Sarasota County’s board of commissioners unanimously voted in favor of an ordinance that would allow the county to seize the home of anyone who has failed to pay a red-light camera ticket, and this is before any red-light cameras have been installed. The lien would be placed on the vehicle’s registered owner, regardless if the owner was driving the during the accussed infraction. And if they don’t own a home, then other personal property would be seized. Not draconian at all.

About the only thing crazier than actually paying for a million dollar re-bodied Lamborghini Murcielago (i.e. the Reventon) is this Canadian guy’s re-bodied Pontiac Fiero. From many angles, Woody, the creator, did a fine job of mimicking the Reventon’s proportions…until you see the profile: the back end seems a tad short. Maybe it’s the lack of a properly sized wheel in that shot.
Woody also ripped out the the stock engine and stuffed a twin-turbo, small-block V8 into the engine bay. Mad props to Woody, but unless he’s a skilled chassis engineer, that much power in an antiquated chassis sounds like a recipe for disaster.
And the hits just keep coming! On his way to a private airfield, Schumacher was attempting a pass another car and hit Martin Kingham while the man was closing a security gate that extended onto the street. After the impact catapulted him face-down onto the hood of a nearby van, Kingham said Schumacher was furious with him, yelling, "What the f*****g hell were you doing in the road?"

Self-proclaimed Prince Marcus Eberhard Edward of Anhalt (some dispute whether or not he can claim that title) and pornographer to "the simple people," wrecked his rare Gemballa Mirage GT at Circuit Paul Ricard recently. It’s not known whether or not the "thumbs down" sign rates his driving skills or his Q rating amongst people who know of him.

You’d think there are better ways to protest high gas prices than setting your car on fire, for example, public transportation or a getting a motorcycle or a boycott, but that’s just what a 30 year-old Bavarian man did with his ‘95 3 Series after parking it on the Frankfurt convention center’s grounds. He has not been charged with a crime, yet, but could easily be hit with violating environmental laws. No irony there.

If you’re caught speeding in Holly Springs, Georgia, expect to pay an extra $12 surcharge to cover the cost of the police department’s gas bills. The city’s police chief, Ken Ball, said he got the idea after hearing about airlines, florists and pizza shops tacking on surcharges to cover the spike in fuel prices. Ball said he’s been inundated with calls from other police departments and city managers, so this surcharge cancer might be spreading. Atlanta just approved a similar bill that’s awaiting the mayor’s signature.

Talk about target marketing, you’ve gotta give this dealership in Butler, Missouri, some credit for knowing their customers. They’re offering a free gun to anyone who buys a new car. So, in exchange for signing your life away for 4 or 5 years of car payments, you get a gun worth a couple hundred dollars. Makes sense (in a logically-incompatible, parallel universe). We hear the gas station down the street is offering free bullets, instead of free car washes, for customers who buy more than 10 gallons of gas. Coincidentally, or not, the city of Butler saw a rapid increase of STOP signs perforated by small arms fire shortly after the dealership announced the offer. No word yet on who’s offering bullet-proof vests.
