VIDEO: Alex Roy @ Google - The Technology, Business Model & Secrets Behind A 21st Century Cannonball Run

Want to break the 31:04 cross country record? You’ll need an hour to watch this - my recent talk @ Google’s New York HQ, where for the first time in public I discuss and display Team Polizei’s heretofore totally secret 2-year plan for assaulting the 1983 32 hour 7 minute record. If you’ve been waiting to see our Herculean Google Earth map analysis of speed traps and the electronic countermeasure suite described in "The Driver", you might even love this as much as my new friends at the Food & Beverage Institute down in Quantico, Virginia…where I gave a private talk about details that still haven’t seen the light of day. (Never heard of the Institute? HINT: They love cars. And tech.)

Watch my FULL ONE HOUR Google talk AND check out the most shocking Polizei M5 sighting of all time…after the jump:

CHP vs. Gumball 3000: “We’re Very Well Aware Of It.”

"We’re very well aware of it and we’ll be monitoring what’s going on."

That’s what one California Highway Patrol spokesperson told the LA Times…and yet Day 1 of the 2008 Gumball 3000 - which ran from San Francisco to Buttonwillow Raceway Park to Hollywood, CA - ended last night with what appears to be one of the slowest, lowest-ticketed grids in Gumball 3000 (if not modern "rally") history…at least according to our friends and allies actually on it.

Gumball 3000 Update: Team Arbuckle 1st to Buttonwillow!

God bless Gumball 3000 2008’s Team Arbuckle, who’ve proven their professionalism by arriving first at the Buttonwillow Checkpoint with an astounding lead over the rest of the field.

Geotegic Goes Live With Google Earth Map For Piaggio

Geotegic, Team Polizei’s mapping consultancy, which has been providing detailed 2d Google Maps for Piaggio’s "No Age Limit Ride" since the June 13th, just recently published a 3D Google Earth map that gives viewers a greater sense of the terrain and landmarks along Buddy & Bob’s epic ride. It’s free to download, you just need to install the Google Earth program, which is free, too.

31:04 In Google Maps!

Here it is. Above? The World’s Most Infamous Google kml map file, exported from Earth into Maps. (WARNING - you MUST download Google Earth in order to view the .kml file!) Entitled "Infographic & Validation (V.9)" - this is the same .kml we and Wired.com posted in October 2007 when "The Driver" was released, and shows various milestones our 31:04 Cross Country Run. Enjoy this…just a little tiny taste of what’s coming soon. Very soon, and I’m not merely talking about "32 Hours 7 Minutes"…

The 10 Most Dangerous Roads In America. Or The World. Call it 23. Or 31. Or 74-

If you added up all the "Most Dangerous Roads in America" lists compiled by all the journalists who seem to enjoy the annual ritual of compiling "Most Dangerous Road" lists, even a search as brief as mine yielded some controversy among "Most Dangerous Road" experts.

Start your survey of American "Most Dangerous Roads" with Forbes and their fine gallery, then go deep with MSN’s searchable database (excruciating demarcated by County), then move beyond the US with an International Top 5 starting with Bolivia’s "Road of Death", then check out USAToday’s seemingly well-researched but yet un-linked International Top 23, then move onto the hardcore knowledge…

You must RSVP, as space is at a premium!

(A million thanks to man-about-SF-town Kai Chang, uber-blogger Tim Ferriss & old friend Andrea Zurek, each of whom have bent over backwards to make this happen…)
