"Les Go Fast" was what the French police called a group of drug couriers who used high-end German cars to transport coke and weed throughout Europe. Carrying up to 1400 lbs of contraband, "Les Go Fast" were famous for using an SUV as a "rabbit" to spot police and run over any that tried to block the road. They didn’t go the stealth route, they simply drove so fast it would have been too dangerous to try to stop them.
Now there’s a movie coming out about them on October 10th. Unfortunately…for many…it’ll only be released in France. (Thanks to Chris M. for the tip…)

If you’ve got over $1000 in toll violations in the state of Delaware, the police now have the authority to seize your car on the spot. Granted, anyone who has over $1000 worth of toll violations needs to take responsibilty for their actions and either pay up or contest it, but taking one’s car away before they pay the fines or contest the tickets is a bit much. This article in theNewspaper.com also cites studies that say automated toll road systems falsely accuse thousands of people each year of violations.

The Newspaper.com reported that nation’s two largest red light camera vendors both have plans to turn their photo-ticketing cameras into a nationwide surveillance system. "We are moving into areas such as homeland security on a national level and on a local level," Redflex regional director Cherif Elsadek said. And in a proposal to the Arizona state police, ATS, the second-largest vendor, told the agency that their cameras could be integrated into a national vehicle tracking database. This is similar to the plan in the UK that will utilize their average speed cameras to help police "keep tabs on criminals and political opponents."

Kinda hard to know who to believe on this one. The Sun, hardly the model of objectivity, said the group of middle-aged motorists were on a sedate European tour. The organizers, Circuit Days, out of the UK, issued a press release to say they believed the polizei acted improperly and that their Euro Enduro event is not an illegal race, it’s just a social driving event. Circuit Days also points out that the polizei have "no evidence of any speeding, careless, inconsiderate or dangerous driving by the participants." However, if you look at their website, they call themselves the organizers of the Euro Enduro "road rally events." The polizei, according to The Sun, said, "It was an illegal race."

Apparently, no, some people don’t have anything better to do. And, yes, as a species, humans are devolving.
Some mis-guided cro-mags are taking their anger out on the environmentally conscious by attacking Priuses, which is a complete 180 from what eco terrorists like the Earth Liberation Front did to some Hummers in California. While one may find it hard to agree with the means by which the ELF made their statements against Hummers, it’s even more difficult to understand the rationale (or lack thereof) of the Prius attackers. Would this mean they’re against efforts to reduce global warming and oil dependence and are hoping for the post-Peak Oil collapse to come sooner?

Perhaps this trucker mis-interpreted the meaning of EZ Pass. When asked later about his disappearing plate, the trucker said he didn’t know anything about it. Apparently the wire (that was connected to the hinged plate) that stuck out of the cigarette lighter socket didn’t seem out of place. He would probably still be using it had it not been for a Port Authority cop driving alonside him.

About the only thing crazier than actually paying for a million dollar re-bodied Lamborghini Murcielago (i.e. the Reventon) is this Canadian guy’s re-bodied Pontiac Fiero. From many angles, Woody, the creator, did a fine job of mimicking the Reventon’s proportions…until you see the profile: the back end seems a tad short. Maybe it’s the lack of a properly sized wheel in that shot.
Woody also ripped out the the stock engine and stuffed a twin-turbo, small-block V8 into the engine bay. Mad props to Woody, but unless he’s a skilled chassis engineer, that much power in an antiquated chassis sounds like a recipe for disaster.

The town of Swindon has spent (or spends) 400K Pounds to fund speed cameras in their district but the proceeds from the ticket fines goes straight to the central government. Town leaders, Roderick Bluh and Peter Greenhalgh, think that "speed cameras might not be the most effective way to reduce accidents" and are "reviewing their involvement in the local safety camera partnership scheme."

Three undercover cops get on this limo-bus after being intrigued by the $40 all-you-can-drink offer. Once on the bus, clothes are taken off and lap dances and other acts are offered. After having a couple of lap dances, the cops bust everyone on the bus for soliciting prostitution. Maybe they should’ve driven this thing to Nevada, where prostitution’s legal.

Is this government intrusion or a benefit to us all? Or a government intrusion that benefits us all? I’d think taking as many drunk drivers off the road as possible can only be a good thing. After all, if you don’t drink and drive, why should you worry? And how many times have you had a glass or two or more of liquid confidence and gotten behind the wheel because you thought you were completely sober or in control but actually above the limit?
