Several weeks after SEMA I finally got the link for my interview with Car Crazy’s Barry Meguiar, the man with one of the few brands to actually sponsor the Gumball even way back when I started out in 2003. Meguiar knew ALL about our 31:04 record run, and the Cannonball, and just so happens to know Brock Yates, which is why we could barely start the interview without laughing, let alone get through it without giggling like kids. I gave him a copy of "The Driver" once we were done, to which he responded, "call me next time you go, and let me know when that 32:07 movie is out!"
"That’s Cory Welles‘ 32:07 movie," I smiled.
Just so we’re clear. Big things are coming. Cory’s nearly there.

Okay, so it’s in Vegas, which means it’s the New York, New York Casino to the Paris Casino. But it’s still a race…with no mercy. The New York Motor Club’s Matt Farah & I - on Rascals - racing down the Vegas Strip on the last night of SEMA 2007.
Don’t ask why. Ask why not. It was legal…and I was wearing safety equipment. As for why the police showed up, it had nothing to do with the race itself. I swear.
So much happened in the last four days in Las Vegas at SEMA 2007, I can barely remember it all, but one of the high points was the totally unexpected interview Fast Lane Daily Producer Kenny Herman set up for me with racing legend Alex Zanardi. I’m seldom starstruck, but Alex was among the most humble, disarming and charming celebrities I’ve ever met. Kenny suggested calling the segment "The Driver Interviews The Driver"…but I have to say that seems highly flattering to me relative to Zanardi’s legacy of commitment and tenacity. I hope he enjoys my book "The Driver" as much as I did his.
Part 1 of our interview lies about halfway through Fast Lane Daily’s November 2nd SEMA video update. Part 2 - which covers Zanardi’s accident - was too long to include above and will run in a longer special segment next week.
