Alex Roy isn’t crazy. I just thought I’d throw that out there, because when most people meet him and find out what he’s done, that’s their first reaction. I mean, only an insane person would dress up like a foreign police officer and drive around really fast in a fake foreign police car in a rally where the prize is nothing. Most people would say that doing just that one time is a crazy thing to do. How about eight times? Have we reached crazy yet? What if he then decided to break the long-standing Cannonball record by driving from New York City to Los Angeles in less than 32 hours? Would that be crazy? According to most people, yes it would.

Okay, so it’s in Vegas, which means it’s the New York, New York Casino to the Paris Casino. But it’s still a race…with no mercy. The New York Motor Club’s Matt Farah & I - on Rascals - racing down the Vegas Strip on the last night of SEMA 2007.
Don’t ask why. Ask why not. It was legal…and I was wearing safety equipment. As for why the police showed up, it had nothing to do with the race itself. I swear.
Today. For one day. I and the Team Polizei M5 - the very car used on the historic 31:04 US Transcontinental Record Setting Run last October - will make a special one-day appearance at the Miami Auto Show today - from 11am to 10pm - as part of the first leg of "The Driver" book tour.
New York Motor Club President Matt "One Cup" Farah - an amazing driver, a man with a terrible sense of humor and Alex’s fantastic co-driver on the run down from the NYC - will join him for a surprise announcement sure to upset the authorities in several states, especially one particular new friend in South Carolina…
If you don’t already own "The Driver" in hardcover, we will have copies for sale…which I’ll be happy to personalize and autograph. I will also be giving tours of the M5’s gear, and insulting anyone who drives a car costing more than mine.
If I’m not standing beside the M5, I’ll probably have run off to visit old friends Noah and Rob of Gotham Dream Cars and Super Speeders respectively, whose booth is just a few minutes away inside the convention center. I won’t be gone for more than 15 minutes, so come back and you’ll find me.
We will be prominently positioned in front of the main entrance facing the parking lot and valet. Come introduce yourself, but make sure to mention your screen name, as it is the latter we are more likely to recognize.

New York Motor Club Jefe Matt Farah and I finally made it to Miami late Thursday night, after a longer-than-expected two-stage/two-day drive from NYC. Our planned stop in Charleston, South Carolina was cancelled due to fatigue induced by Washington DC’s wretched traffic…not to mention a 90 minute stop to visit my old haunting grounds around the Georgetown and American University campuses.
An unplanned stop in Columbia, SC - new territory for the top brass from Team Polizei and The New York Motorclub - demanded a visit to Columbia’s best watering holes. That story can’t be told now due both to moral and time restrictions, but two hardy Polizei fans made it there to see us:

Alex Roy & Matt Farah will depart NYC in the Polizei M5 this morning and head south on Day 1 of "The Driver" Book Tour.
First Stop? Charleston, SC…halfway to the Miami Auto Show starting Friday, November 10th! Keep your eyes open for Team Polizei when they make a ONE(!) day appearance on Saturday, November 11th at the Florida International Auto Show in Miami!

Google Maps & Earth will be used for tour updates and tracking. Video will be accumulated. Technology will be deployed. Laws will be obeyed. Patience will be demonstrated. Friends will be visited. Foes will be avoided.

"The Driver" wll be released on Tuesday, October 16th, so unless Jeremy Clarkson invites me for a private reading, or unless I’m arrrested for acts to which I confess within its pages, I’ll be reading excerpts and showing related videos this Thursday at a secret location to my friends at The New York Motor Club. It’s a private event, alas, as NYMC boss Matt Farah runs a tight ship and only accepts new members by referral. I’m not even a member, but hope they still accept my application after my reading…after which I’ll be showing the trailer from "32:07" and doing some Q&A about the upcoming film.
A little bird told me the following rumors:
1) Jon9 may join me.
2) The all-new Team Polizei Interceptor - 144B - may be unveiled. Maybe. If it’s ready.
