Truth is stranger than fiction. Valentine Research - makers of the vaunted V1 Radar/Laser Detector in uninterrupted use by yours truly since its initial release in 1992 - chose, in a highly appreciated yet unexpected move, to use a (long-forgotten) quote of mine in what someone at their office with a sense of humor must consider an expert/celebrity(!?) endorsement of the V1’s supremacy.
See for yourself on page 19 of the January issue of Automobile Magazine…
Valentine Research didn’t ask, but actually…they didn’t need to. Anyone who’s driven with me knows what I would have said.
Also interesting is the upper quote from my Gizmodo review - a small part of I think is one of the most widely read V1 reviews ever, and yet am not credited. ;-}
Hey, Mike: when are we going to get >incremental/place-holder upgrades and see a V2?

Yet another markup on the list of accomplishments for Captain Roy.
They’ve had that ad for a few months now. It was the in the August issue too, at least.
Question: What improvements would you want in a V2?
The ad is also in Road & Track along with Car & Driver quoting Alex Roy.
what do you mean V2 the V1 is set up so it doesn’t become obsolete.
ALEX ROY RESPONDS: Agreed, up to a point, because the addition of GPS functionality/integration re: known false alarms is the only missing feature, and the V1 hardware would need to evolve in order to fit it, I’m sure.
A hardware upgrade would be required for GPS. That said, the V1 is far and away the best radar/laser detector you can buy. And I say that having crossed the country only about one-tenth as frequently as Alex, and somewhat slower.
