CNN reports on this horrific street racing accident, where 60+ approving bystanders allegedly spilled onto a road to watch two cars drag race on a foggy night.
A white sedan then appeared out of the fog. Eight people were killed.
However much anyone may critique Team Polizei’s 31:04 Record Run, we spend 100+ hours on preparation for each hour spent in-car.
Street racers and their victims spend weeks, months - if not the rest of their lives - paying the price for every minute spent in-car.
This senseless tragedy proves once again why - every time one turns the ignition - one should consider how deadly a car can be at any speed, and why kids should stick to Playstation. (Hey, I still play.)

the car that killed the bystanders wasn’t even racing. i had heard that tire smoke from the participating cars also contributed to the visibility issues. what geniuses decided to do this on a foggy night on a public road? if you’re going to have that many spectators, rent a track somewhere or do it somewhere private. i mean, even if that car was going 30 mph, fatalities would result from the impact, and, based on initial reports, it sounds like he had every right to be on that road.
FAST AND THE FURIOUS 4!
is coming out this yr or early 09
I couldn’t agree with you more. I pray for the families.
playstation is the way to go. you only have to buy the console and a good steering wheel and no matter how many times you crash, or wear out your tires, you’ll never get hurt and never have to pay for car repairs.
I disagree.
Xbox 360/Forza/MS Racing Wheel combo is the most realistic setup for under $1000.
Seriously, though, my condolences to those involved.
this is why there should be more racetracks/airfiels/.. where people can race and watch the races safely
Forza is better than Gran Tourismo???
This accident could have easily happened on a Gumball or Bullrun too though. Expensive cars racing 3 deep on 2 lane public roads are no less dangerous than cheaper cars doing the same thing.
… and I like Forza 2 better than Gran Turismo 4
I suppose that kind of thing is only to be expected if people are standing in the middle of a public highway in the darkness…
In the FOG? What the hell were they thinking?
The reason I am a Polizei fan is because when Alex & co do things, they do it SAFE, with the public as their first thought. Scanners, detectors, night-vision goggles and thermal imaging cameras, coupled with a strong sense of caution make for safe high-speed driving. Idiots showing off in the fog do not.
That is the difference.
What the hell were they thinking?
Team Polizei is to be commended for the way they do things. I just finished reading Alex’s book. The thing that struck me was the amount of time they put into preparing (for things like 31:04) and the extensive equipment used to ensure not only their safety but that of others. As Alex said, Team Polizei stand for the law. They don’t endanger others in their pursuit. Other should follow this example.
