Here’s some nice pics of our good friend Mr. Ed’s discovery of something quite unpleasant for speeders in UK. Click through for Mr. Ed’s full story…

Must be my lucky day. I came across this car in the UK. See the photos.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you, and it’s not going to a fancy dress
party for cars. This is a real UK ANPR police Mitsubishi Evo 8, based in
the county of Essex, they were booking an uninsured vehicle.
I went out for a walk, and came across it in my neighbourhood. After 5
mins of walking in the opposite direction, I thought what have I got to
lose. I went up to the police officer and asked "Would you mind if I
took a photo of your car, it’s very rare?". He was more than happy, gave
me the low down too, like all boys and their toys. Kind of went over my
head, but here is what I remember:
- Only 2 of these in the UK. About 1 year old, 55 plate.
- Call sign QT81
- Has front and rear ANPR, infra read reader on spoiler - can read
through anything he says
- Has done 156mph in the UK
- Essex police expect to have 2 blue subaru WRX in yellow/blue livery
within couple of months, supposedly self financed from capturing people
breaking the law, go figure - OBEY THE LAW
- Database is couple of hours old - very up to date
- Police sell footage to TV company’s, 500.00 GBP per clip
- They carry USB memory keys
- Car can be running without keys in ignition, for fast getaway
- They may need to practice their getaway, he stalled it as I was
leaving - as god is my witness
- On the radio, voice came in "QT81 where are you", another vehicle was
wondering where he got too, he was busy showing me the car.
- Wish I had a ‘I park like an idiot.com’ sticker. The car is parked in
a bus stop. I forgot to check it’s hours of operation.
Police officer was exceptionally friendly and polite. I forgot to ask
his name, but it was a pleasure to sit in the passenger seat, only 2 in
the UK.
Ed.
Thanks, Mr. Ed.

Even supercar owners should be worried about this.
On our UK roads hardly anything could get away from an Evo let alone one with police beacons and ANPR livery all over it. It may be nice to see when stopped but if it was in my rear view mirror I wouldn’t be too happy. Beats the police skodas hands down!!!!
Hey guys, let’s not get TOO worried………..
156MPH or 160MPH
Is not REALLY in Super car territory
Not even close
A lambo or Ferrari with enough room will run circles around this car.
A 1990 Nissan 300ZX TT can do 155MPH with a limiter.
That’s with 18 year old technology.
I’m NOT impressed by this EVO, sorry ( just my opinion )
Of course……I wouldn’t want to be stopped by one either.
I feel bad for the drivers in the UK.
Seems very unfair, to have a car like this sneaking around.
It is true that the Evo does not have a supercar’s top speed but on a B road it could keep up with most of the new Lambo’s and Ferrari’s. Let’s not forget that the Evo was born for rallying, that’s got to stand for something.
Agreed, this car would have no problem keeping up with a Lambo in town, at all. I’m sure most of you have seen the Top Gear footage, if not, see youtube.
Apparently everytime they crash the front radiator needs replacing! The first two were damaged pretty quickly!
I agree with Winn….Steve D has his head in the clouds…
Unless he is Tony Kanaan or Hamilton on a closed circuit or Taniguchi San…The boys in blue will tear up his 18 year old Nissan…or Ferrari. Steve don’t forget the helicopter, the boys in the EVo will call.
Steve is an idiot and I am very happy the boys are getting back….
I want to be safe on the road and not have to contend with a moron who can’t shell out dosh for advanced training or a day at the track or afford a Ferrari and wants to show off in his dodgy Japanese import on public road
Don’t know why the Police in the UK want such a rice burner.
try be like the sly mothers in Canada, the Cops play hide seek, drive around in vehicles with local radio station decals, park at night with no lights, hide in gullys, to catch canadian’s who drive at 4km over the limit, the limit being a mear 100km. or 60 mph.
when I drive in the uk, I use my foregin licence, so it does not bother me driving over the limit.
Thanks.
Rob.
Obviously you haven’t seen the Jags, Beamers, or Audis the old bill have here yet, don’t think anyone has been fast enough to grab a pic. They come in all colours and you only see the livery when they stop, sneaky gits!!!!!! These puppies catch the supercars on a regular basis, think the faster stop and check was done on the M6 near Birmingham at 187mph. The Evo and alike cars are used just for the boy racers………..
lambo ha ? well check this out. haha

I reckon thats pretty much the scariest thing in any police forces arsenal.
A regular panda car (Astra diesel etc) is easy to escape from down a b road, this on the other hand WILL catch you.
As for its top speed, the police have a couple of other things to aid in that situation. Radios, helicopters and lots of other police friends.
And lets not forget that other great thing. British traffic!!
I myself have been (coughs) stopped by a number of faster style police cars. A Subaru Impreza in Dorset and a BMW 5 series on the M3 (not finished in blue unfortunately), not sure if it was an M5 though. Was too busy eating humble pie on that occasion!!
Sound like you guys know what you are taling about. Hahaha you guys are a joke. All they have to do is change the final gear wich is no more then $1000 and your precious over priced exotic cars are gone. I know I own a evo with a different final gear and AMS GT35R and I hit 187 MPH with ease. I can shit on your ferrari and lambo with my $30k car which if better in all aspects almost. I will laugh when I will see you dumb asses on TV trying to run away and crashing into other cars and building and what not. Hahahaha Evo’s GOT YOU BITCHES!!!!!!
Look guys. I stand by my original post. 160 MPH is NOT in supercar territory.
Let’s not resort to name calling to try and prove a point.
Put it on the Autobahn against a real supercar.
Think the evo can catch a Veyron or Koenigsegg ?
How about the McLaren F1 or the Dauer 962 ?
Can it catch an M5 or M6 ?
How about the Saleen ? the Noble……the Mosler ?
There are AT LEAST a dozen street legal SUPERCARS that will beat the pants off this car.
One more thing………
We’re all adults here ( I hope )
So stop the name calling.
If you like the Evo, that’s great.
Just don’t make it out to be MORE than what it is.
As the manager of the team you are describing in your posts above, I thought it prudent to post a reply and explain the rationale behind usuing these particular vehicles in Essex. You are correct in stating we have two genuine Police evos.We also now have 4 subaru Imprezzas and a number of unmarked high performance cars. They form part of our ANPR Intercept & Tactical Operations Units. They are based at 3 locations across our county. Each unit is tasked with dealing with the ‘higher profile’ offenders and those comitting crime across borders. They are primarily aimed at dealing with Crime, however they are all Roads Policing trained, so can deal with innapropriate driver behaviour as well. Experience showed in the past the ‘criminal element’ we were dealing with often tried to out run the police, resulting in dangerous high speed pursuits. Since the introduction of these cars to the teams, our pursuits have now dropped two thirds, which is far better for the safety of all concerned. In addition to this, aprehension of prolific offenders across the force area has increased. Each driver is pursuit trained, as well as receiving regular training in all tactical options available to the police today. As can be seen, what may appear to the ‘uninformed’ as an extravagance,is in fact backed by very sound reasoning on the part of Essex Police.
I wonder if it has automatic grocer’s apostrophe recognition as well… “companies”.
you guys are like watching the Keystone Cops ! you wouldn’t last ten minutes in the USA OR Australia.
You need more than Evos or Impretzzas to keep you alive.
What a Joke !!
Your blog is rad. Fantastic work!
Fair point made by a couple folk….a 200mph supercar could outrun an Evo or Impreza in a drag race along a disused air strip or somewhere, but how many pursuits are there like that? Im guessing none. Try escaping an Evo in a Veyron (for example) through rush hour traffic through the centre of town…are you going to hit 200mph? No. Chances are due to the erratic nature of your driving trying to escape the police, combined with the riduculous power of the Veyron, you’re going to wrap the car round a lampost or smash into something.
The Evo may ONLY be able to do 155mph or whatever it is, but pair that with the exceptionally high levels of training the police receive to drive them…theres no danger ANY car will outrun one on a pursuit through a UK town/city….perhaps even motorway - any slight mistake by the driver of the Veyron is going to cause carnage if hes doing 150-200mph….and remember as he’s trying to evade the police theres a pretty good chance he’ll be driving like an absolute nutter cutting in between vehicles and across lanes etc, down the hard shoulder, waiting to the last second to exit onto a slip road. Trying doing all that at 200mph with the pressure of a few Evo’s and Impeza’s chasing you and guaranteed you will f*ck up and more than likely kill yourself as your not trained to drive like a fanny at that speed. No-one is….doesnt matter how fast your car can go, if your attempting to evade the police then its almost guaranteed your driving is going to be like the videos you see on all the police camera action type shows, road wars etc, and that at some point you will lose control.
You see people in little 1.2 litre cars going 80mph through a deserted town centre at 4am and lose control & crash…so how do you expect the same idiots to handle a 200mph supercar in the same situation?
