From Team Polizei’s very own Piloten Jon Goodrich vacationing on this year’s Players Run:

Update #3 from Big Sky, Montana: "Making the most of It"

With the help of a noble effort from our driver, we arrived at the Canadian border at around noon in our hired Tahoe with Dustin Whorls from Mischief.tv.  After a brief and confusing conversation with the border guard explaining how and why we were being chauffeured to the Montana to meet our car, we passed through.  The word on our car from the trucking company was as follows:

"You car is parked approximately 1/2 mile from the border check on the right side of the road.  Look for the American flag.  The key to both your Vantage and the Gallardo that are sitting there is underneath the southern horse statue’s right hoof.  Dig beneath the platform and you will find a plastic bag with both keys."  I seriously thought the guy was joking.

We arrived at the rest stop in pouring rain and 40 degree weather.  The Vantage and Gallardo were in fact just sitting there and after a brief search under the horses hoof we located the key.  We managed to cram Ashley’s two humungus  bags and my few bits into the car, bidded Dustin and the driver a warm farewell and proceeded to the checkpoint in Glacier National Park.  We were first to the checkpoint and Ashley drew us a respectable King of Diamonds, the first card in our Player’s Run poker hand.

After a difficult exit from the park (where apparently everyone suffered) we decided to take an alternate route south to link up with the I-90 instead of taking the suggested back roads route.  Excited to be out of the 25 MPH park zone I decided to open up the Vantage a little bit.  The road we chose was a one (occasionally two for passing) lane road which didn’t exactly allow for high-speed heroics.  After patiently waiting a few times for the passing lane i ran out of patience and passed a few guys under less than ideal conditions.  As I crested a hill, I spotted a full-grown sitting on the side of the road, slowed down and rolled by real nice like.  He pulled out straight away.

We pulled off at a Sinclair station about 1/4 mile down to getagayse and some red bull.  i knew he had pulled out and sincerely wanted to avoid the confusion and annoyance of a road side discussion, so we calmly pulled into the station and jumped out of the car.  He pulled in behind us and polietly asked me for my license and proof of insurance.  He ran the documents and returned a few minutes later to explain that he had received a call that we had passed a few cars on a double yellow and were driving in excess of 100MPH.  I was ready to give my best heartfelt performance when he stopped us both..

"I didn’t actually SEE anything.  Besides, you’re in an Aston so WHAT CAN YOU DO?"

We smiled and thanked him and were off on our way.  Good thing we didn’t have any stickers on the car.

The rest of our drive was fast and uneventful.  I finished up my leg with a respectable 150 top speed and passed the torch to Ashley.  She took the wheel and immediately got on the I-90 and picked up the pace to about 110MPH.  We drove almost 2 hours without a single signal from the Valentine and I can honestly say Ashley never dropped below 100.

We got off the I-90 and took the small road in towards the hotel.  I was hopeful and optimistic that we were in P1, but alas our arrival at the Summit Hotel in Big Sky proved otherwise.  Team Darkside’s SLR and Bentley GT were already parked in front of the hotel putting us in a respectable P3.  Considering the fact we started the day without a car, hired a limo and managed to still make it to Big Sky in P3 we feel pretty good.  Our car has been stickered and detailed and were excited to join the fray tomorrow as we leave Big Sky en route to Salt Lake City.
