Yes, Team Polizei is road testing an all-new Pursuit vehicle - heretofore designated 144H - not be confused with 144A through G, which are Interceptor vehicles, or 144R, which is a Race vehicle.
Anyone want to guess the year and model BMW in which the powerplant above resides?
Hint? Shark. Nose. Cool. Best BMW Coupe. Ever. M.

This engine is an M88, so the car you are talking about should be a M635CSi Coupe. Probably one of the best bmw coupes, in my opinion.
well, the sharknose is most likely the 1st/2nd gen M6, but I’d like to think that the best BMW M coupe ever was the M1 — even if it wouldn’t make a great chase car
I’d bet good money on the E24 M6.
For what you need a pursuit vehicle besides the interceptors and the race car???
Interceptors = Rallys
Race car = Unlimited Class? ; Nürburgring ?
Pursuit vehicle??
I need explanations!
I just googled and found this info
http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=5
Now where did I put my box of tissues…..
I put my money on the M1.
Sixer Shark from the 80s? Maybe the H stands for Historic.
I’d have to agree with David. I’d be willing to bet a M635CSi is what you’re alluding to. Almost 300hp, still looks great today, lots of them available in good condition and relatively cheap to pick one up.
BMW M3 or M6 I bet the new M6 since it has the M5 engine.
1999 BMW 850CSi E31 V-12
Not known really as the first shark nosed BMW, but the most pointed crazy front BMW has turned out. A great persuit vehicle for sure. See you in S.F. in August!
Sharknose is the classic name for the BMW 635CSi. It was also build in the M version. Mr. Ed allready sent the link to it.
Well H is the 8th letter in the alphabet, or it stands for Hot Persuit, or… back to the question of the year and model. Anyone got it?
I will stand by my first conclusion, and that the letter “H” is utilized because it’s the 8th letter in the alphabet (because the car should have been called the M8). An historic M car indeed Alex. see details below:

Is the 850CSi considered an M car?
Although not badged as such, the 850CSi was developed by BMW Motorsport (later renamed BMW M) and is therefore a true M car.
If the 850CSi was developed by M, why is it not badged as an “M8″?
BMW Motorsport did develop a prototype 8 Series with a lightweight body and a 550-hp 48-valve V12 engine that was known as the M8. However, BMW pulled the plug on the M8 and stated, “We’re just not interested in putting our name on cars like this anymore.” Instead, a more mild 8 Series with a 24-valve version of the V12 and normal steel body panels was chosen for production. This model was named 850CSi, perhaps because it was more closely related to the regular 850Ci coupe than the M8 prototype or perhaps because BMW did not wish to attach the M badge to a rather large and heavy grand touring coupe.

M6 it is then. It’s either E24 M635CSi/”M6″ or E63 M6
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M6
500 suggests 500 bhp
You are trying to get 500 bhp out of an M635CSi ???
or the ‘power button’ E63 for 500 bhp. You say Best BMW coupe. Ever.
This means best engine ever, the BMW_S85
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_S85
Best Performance Engine from International Engine of the Year for 3 years straight 2005, 2006, 2007.
I say BMW_S85, wrong photo.
I’m going for a 2006 E63 M6 Coupe, second-hand.
I believe that is the S38, but I do think we will be looking at a E24 M6 here.
Just going with the whole shark theme… M4 (a.k.a. The Landshark)
Well done mr.ed - nice work there. I’d take you onboard a co-driver any time. Now if Mr. Roy would just give us the answer we could decide who’s buying gas.
Well the best BMW coupe ever was the E9 3.0 CSi. With an S38/M88 swap, it would be ridiculous, but not Polizei ridiculous.
The shot is clearly a S38, the M88/3 has the roundel inscribed on the valve cover as well as either “BMW M Power” or “M Power.” The S38 only reads “BMW M Power.”
So, it’s a sharknose (E24) with an S38 (B35, B36, or B38 is anyone’s guess). The M6/M635CSi used the S38B35, so that’s my guess. Forced induction? Eh, Alex? I look forward to seeing some vintage Polizei. I vote for white an green vinyls like the old school polizei cars.
Something like this (http://www.katsches.de/vt160/bmw_polizei_gross_nr025.jpg).
Meh.

Trevor
it’s the e28 that alex wanted to buy
It’s a Team Polizei BMW
Need we say anymore?
