Big news looms - maybe - regarding Top Gear USA’s future, according to our anonymous, disparate and usually credible sources.
What could it be? Here’s my list, in descending order…
But first, some context and history regarding the American version of our beloved show:
| January | NBC orders pilot for US Top Gear. Jay Leno & Jerry Seinfeld rumored to host. American fans of UK Top Gear complain. |
| February | Adam Carolla announces he will host US Top Gear American fans of UK Top Gear complain. |
| March | Jay Leno writes "I hope we don’t ruin it." American fans of UK Top Gear concur…and complain. Pulitzer Prize-winning automotive journalist Dan Neil joins the cast. |
| April | Drifting champion Tanner Foust joins the cast. Dan Neil fired. Rumors say top NBC brass responsible. Neil confirms worst fears of American fans of UK Top Gear. Adam Carolla driving video emerges. American fans of UK Top Gear complain. |
| May | NBC Exec says "it’s in trouble" - off the record, of course. Screen tests continue. Pilot shoot delayed. Non-appearance on NBC’s fall lineup sparks cancellation rumors. American fans of UK Top Gear rejoice. |
So NOW here’s my list of possible news coming sometime today, or not:
4) The pilot will be delayed and released mid-season.
3) The show is cancelled.
2) The show is being "tweaked" due to…er…NBC brass hating everything about it, or being confused, or both.
1) The third host will be:
a) A certain Team Polizei co-pilot who may or may not have been announced as a co-pilot…yet. Maybe.
b) A certain writer, possibly foreign, who currently writes for a certain American car magazine that doesn’t suck, yet who doesn’t need (or necessarily want) the job.
c) A certain TV personality from a well-known automotive show that may or may not be called "Beastly Carriage House", and who once participated in the Gumball 3000 and married a now-retired-yet-once-well-known porn access. He might have divorced her…not that I dug that deep and found out, of course.
d) A TV certain actor whose first name is Chris, whose suitability for Top Gear USA must be based on information far, far beyond the web, and who played a character who may or may not have been named something like "Nutty Cornea’d Murderer" on a popular TV show. Maybe.
e) Some other f****** guy about whom no one can tell me anything useful.
Oh yeah. I could be wrong, but several sources who usually talk wouldn’t this time - whereas some great new high-ranking new ones did - so…who knows? I’ve got lots more to say on this topic, but I’ll hold off on my opinion and the mountain of information I’m sitting on until more news emerges.
Might we be introduced to that certain Team Polizei co-pilot August 9th at the Gumball 3000 start line, or earlier? Anyway, I will cast my vote that direction as I hope to see the 144 brand continue to grow wildly.
I guess I’m one of those American fans of the UK version that really doesn’t want to see this put into production. The UK show is obviously more than just cars being driven. The on-screen personalities make the show what it is. If the US version had any of the antics the UK show has (which is why most of us watch it), it will come off really cheesy and probably a bit fake.
And as far as personalities go, I cannot fucking stand Tanner Foust, and Adam Carolla has already been on enough shows that I haven’t been able to tolerate.
Matt Farah is the new co-pilot?
Well he does his job at Garage 419 very well why not as a host at TopGear USA!!!
Matt Farah would be the icing on the proverbial cake for NBC and Top Gear USA. He’s a community based enthusiast with whom the average car enthusiast can identify. It’d be foolish for them not to cast him..
i’m going to have to agree withe matt farah choice. His work on garage 419 and his tap into the comunity base is just what a fake UK top gear would need

The real question is when are we finally going to see 32:07 The Movie?!

im all for the UK version of top gear, but in practicly every episode they make fun of americans. why should we care if we make a better version of there own show. minus the Matt Farah part.
