    Alex,

Curious what ” positive spin ” Max plans to put on all of this.

I hate to say it, but There appears to be MORE Rally events NOW than before the crash.

Between the BullRun, the Great American Run, The CannonBall Run, And a few others being done in the name of charity, that it is quite concerning. Perhaps even alarming.

By next year, this unfortunate episode will be forgotten.

    The Gumball will continue.

At times, it leaves one a bit numb.

    Will they ever learn.

    Steven D.

Gumball always cites a great saftey record when questioned on the saftey of having such an event. You have to admit that up until this year it seemed that eveyone on the rally was bullit proof. In all honesty I tend to look at the more romantic side of the rally scene and less at the aparent dangers that something like this CAN impose on the public. I think we are all guilty of laying the pedal down a little to hard when you see the road opening up in front of you. Anytime I hear the whole “when will they learn line” I think of the Bonnaroo music festival which has atleast two fatalities a year yet the promoters some how elude the stigma that has found Mr. Cooper and the Gumball. Sure the deaths are mostly drug related and the promoters cant really keep an eye on everyone but really neither can Max. Of course both of them could add more police and security but wouldnt that ruin the point?

Another case that highlights elderly drivers are a growing concern on our roads.

Responsibility is the key here gentlemen. Lest we forget.

Was Mr. Morley travelling at the Lawful rate of speed ?

    Perhaps.

    Perhaps not.

With few exceptions, Legal speed and responsibility went out the window.

No need to make excuses for a poor lapse in judgement.

The elderly couple were NOT a part of this illegal rally.

As much as I enjoy the spirit of the Gumball.

    The spirit is gone.

Instead of saying, will they ever learn, perhaps I should have said.

    Enough is enough already.

    Have a LEGAL RALLY

No one has to die for this.

    I think Alex would agree.

I’d also like to point out, that I am not putting the blame on any one person.

I wasn’t there, so I cannot judge Mr. Morley, or anyone else.

I enjoy fast cars, and an open road too.

But if I make the conscious decision to throw caution to the wind, then I must reap what I sow.

If I screw up and hurt myself, that’s one matter.

If I blow it entirely, and hurt someone else, then the finger points in MY direction, and I am to blame.

It is true, that there are legitimate accidents, that are unavoidable.

I do not know if this accident was inevitable.

Either way, a LEGAL SPEED RALLY is workable.

As a Team Polizei fan, I enjoy Alex’s funny antics, and Police uniforms ( which are great by the way )

And I love the Polizei M5

I also admire and respect Team Polizei for their professionalism, judgement, and driving skill.

Alex Roy is truly rare in the world of would be Rally Drivers.

Anyone can hop in a fast car.

But how many of them can actually DRIVE THE CAR safely

I put my confidence in Team Polizei.

    How about you ?

A rally is perfectly legal if it’s approved by the authorities of the country it’s traveling through.
Anyone driving on the road (regardless of being in a rally) has responsibilty for their own, and others safety. After the VW blindly pulled out on Nick, I understand the fatal impact to the VW, was with a telegraph post, not with Nick and very sadly the Cepuljoskis weren’t wearing seat belt, which is so so important.

  7. 7 Steve DeVaul

Jim has some interesting and important points. The Cepuljoskis DID pull out ( or failed to stop )
And seat belts are VERY important. I am certain that if traffic laws were obeyed, there would be no problem.

But there WERE problems that were beyond most drivers control. Including navigational issues ( if I am correct ) *Please let me know if this is accurate.

The drivers were pushing it pretty hard, and the roads were really less than ideal, if not downright dangerous. even if Mr. Morley was not, at that particular moment, going over the speed limit. I do not know if they were doing 47 miles an hour when the accident occurred, again, I wasn’t there. Perhaps the combined impact speed, and the angle of the hit had more to do with it. Not to mention the advanced age of the couple.

After all, Mr. Morley and his collegue walked away from the crash, apparently without any serious injury ( or no injuries at all )

    We may never know

    Steve

jim has a few good points.
But I am not so certain that Mr. Morley was travelling at the legal sped. I too saw the impact photos.
The Cepuljoskis DID NOT deserve this.
After some reflection, I realize, that although the Morley duo made it out unscathed, it doesn’t relieve them of being responsible. And Rally’s are LEGAL if the participants OBEY THE LAW.

    Steve

Organizers of road rallies, work with Officials from countries they wish to have their rally in. It works on the basis that all rally members are informed they must comply with that nation’s traffic laws and regulations, and if they are caught failing to obey them, they are individually responsible and punishable by that county’s justice system. So no, the Rally is not illegal.

  10. 10 Jim

If Nick had been driving in such a way, that he had not been able to avoid hitting the Cepuljoskis VW and causing the fatal impact with his Porsche, he would certainly now be doing some lengthily prison time.
But Nick drove in such a way that his car didn’t cause the fatal impact, after Mr. Cepuljoski blindly pulled out on him. What sadly happened next to the Cepuljoskis VW, was completely independent from Nick Morley.

    Jim,

I think it’s best to let this go.

There needs to be some serious changes to the Gumball, if it has a chance next year.

    I can say this,…..

Any MORE accidents like this one, and Rally’s like the GUMBALL are in serious jeopardy.

What a shame it is my lad

    A terrible shame.

This is a really good opportunity for the Gumball and other road rally organizations, to take measures to improve the safety of their events.
Steve DeVaul has a good point about the drivers navigation aids (Copilot Live) that encourage them to drive on unsuitable back roads; hopefully they will do away with those.
Considering the entrance fee to the Gumball, I am sure a few £ hundred could be found, to send each driver for 1 or 2 days to an advanced driver training school.
