We all know people who are great drivers in the real world but can’t complete a lap in Gran Turismo. Now Nissan Europe and Sony are trying to find out if gamers can transfer their skills to the real world. Starting on June 2nd, Playstation3 owners can submit their fastest times in a 350Z on the Eiger Nordwand track. The 20 fastest drivers will be invited to compete face-to-face in July, with the three fastest invited to enroll in GT Academy in Silverstone in England using a Skyline GT-R. As this comes from Nissan Europe, no word yet on whether non-europeans will be allowed to participate.

Results from a nationwide survey by GMAC found that drivers in Kansas scored the highest (84%), while NJ’s drivers scored the worst (69%). Midwesterners place seven states in the top 10, while Northeasterners dominated the bottom five. Test scores also showed that men over 35 from the Midwest were most likely to pass the test ,and that, refreshingly, average test scores have gone up, albeit, one percentage point to 78.1 %. Meanwhile, in Australia, over 40,000 drivers had their licenses taken away, in part because of the doubling of fines from speed cameras and the motorists’ failure to adjust to them. In Japan, they’re not even bothering to drive anymore.
Talk about target marketing, you’ve gotta give this dealership in Butler, Missouri, some credit for knowing their customers. They’re offering a free gun to anyone who buys a new car. So, in exchange for signing your life away for 4 or 5 years of car payments, you get a gun worth a couple hundred dollars. Makes sense (in a logically-incompatible, parallel universe). We hear the gas station down the street is offering free bullets, instead of free car washes, for customers who buy more than 10 gallons of gas. Coincidentally, or not, the city of Butler saw a rapid increase of STOP signs perforated by small arms fire shortly after the dealership announced the offer. No word yet on who’s offering bullet-proof vests.
Team Polizei’s Michael Ross recently rode 30 miles as an ambassador for Against Breast Cancer, a UK-based charity that funds breast cancer research. Although it wasn’t a race, it’s believed that Michael completed the ride through Oxforshire’s countryside in record time, without breaking a sweat, while raising over 1,500 Pounds for Against Breast Cancer.
