A baby monitoring device was found under the couch of Porsche boss, Wendelin Wiedeking’s, hotel room. It’s believed that the spies, believed to be either VW or the State of Lower Saxony, the two largest shareholders of VW, were trying to get info on Porsche’s plans regarding their pending controling acquisition of VW. The hotel records rule out the possibility that a family had stayed in the room prior to Wiedeking’s stay. Porsche also said that other company officials have been spied upon, including works council head, Uwe Hueck.
You’d think they’d use stealthier devices.

Getting a plate with similarly shaped numbers and letters could work, depending on the resolution of the speed camera’s photos. But this guy blew it by revealing his name and allowing his SUV to be on camera. You’d think that all the AZ authorities have to do is compile a short list of similar license plates and find the one that matches his vehicle.

Evolutionary psychology is being used by Professor Geoff Beattie to explain sex differences between male and female drivers. According to Beattie, men are hard-wired for aggressiveness and risk taking, while women are more empathetic and willing to forgive tailgating and invasions of space. Men, being more territorial, interpret tailgating and being cut off as a threat, hence, road rage. Beattie claims men’s inner caveman instincts can be overcome through education.

Based on figures from the DOT, NHTSA and AAA, the Autochannel tallied up the numbers and came to the conclusion that 2.8 Billion gallons of gas were wasted due to underinflated tires. Tires underinflated by 7-10psi could decrease fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent, making the average vehicle burn an extra 44 gallons a year. In other words, use that tire gauge. Here are some other tips on how to get better mileage.

The average price for a gallon of gas hit $3.50 on Monday, which is nothing compared to what they’re paying in Norway. Saudi Arabia, which once said they could pump as much oil as the world demanded, has now decided to put a cap on its production in order to save it for future generations. Don’t expect the price to go down anytime soon, if ever. Anyone who doesn’t believe in Peak Oil, like this guy, must really be living in a state of deep delusion. The price of oil effects just about everything, hence, food price riots like the ones in Haiti recently. All, however, is not doom and gloom as optimists, like futurist, Ray Kurzweil, and others, think technology will save us from collapse. Question to you: How has the price of gas/oil effected you and will it affect your next vehicle purchase?

While the superiority of the E39 M5 has been proven by Team Polizei ad infinitum, ad nauseum, ad perineum und ad pancreas, some individuals and law enforcement agencies seem to inexplicably hew to other ideas when it comes to the platonic ideal of the police cruiser. Jalopnik’s Matt Hardigree put it out there for readers to decide, and a number of the site’s commenters seem to agree with our choice. Blind copycats or individuals who truly understand that late-’90s Bavarian thinking created what remains the ne plus ultra of scofflaw deterrance and capture? You make the call.
