Gendarmes in Subaru WRX Capture Vacationing Team Polizei! (or…The Most Surreal Polizei vs. Polizei Interaction of All Time)

8/24/2007 - "But it’s not French!" The Gendarmerie Subaru that caught us on Day Two
of the 2007 DeGrisogono Londino Transnational Automobile Tour. A closer look once at the Auxerre Police Station revealed the hood scoop of a quite-unexpected Subaru WRX.

To say Team Polizei Master Pilot Michael Ross and I were shocked would be an understatement, but our story became even more bizarre once we met the Gendarmes face-to-face. Prepare for the most surreal Team Polizei vs. Real Polizei interaction of all time…

Pre-Order Alex Roy’s “The Driver” On Amazon UK!

I’ve received a lot of e-mail from friends in the UK regarding the shipping cost of ordering The Driver from the US Amazon site, but Amazon UK has conveniently put up a page for the European English-language edition, which will be far more economical. As soon as other UK retailers make it available, I will add the appropriate links.

I heard a rumor from Random House/Ebury Press that the UK edition would ship on or about January 1st, but Amazon UK lists the release date as November 1st, so anything is possible. You’ll find out as soon as I do.

My European book tour will tentatively begin in the UK in early January, then head to the continent.

I look forward to seeing everyone…and showing off Team Polizei’s all-new secret interceptor

I’m Far Too Humble To Have Said This. But Someone Else Did.

Yul Brynner was clearly the Master of the shaved head. Riddick - not Vin Diesel, but his character in Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick - is clearly the Chamberlain of this unimpeachable fashion statement.

To my delight, blogger Tronoh Tranquility has now placed yours truly among them.

And One More Thanks To Ecirkit…

…specifically, Bradley from eCirkit, who somehow got omitted (read: I forgot) from Team Polizei’s last round of thanks for all the support given 9 & Ash on the 2007 Players Run.

Alex Roy’s “The Driver” - Reviews #2

Above: Team Polizei Master Piloten David Maher’s Pavlovian response to "The Driver" surprises none aware of his depiction within. Below: AI Design Owner Matt Figliola & "32 Hours, 7 Minutes" Director Cory Welles also react as expected.

Kneel Before Unlimited 554! Kneel Before La Carrera Panamericana 2007!

This is the real deal. The Herricks are the real deal. And the Herrick’s team number is 554. That’s Unlimited 544 to you.

And this isn’t a rally…it’s a race.

If you aren’t familiar with The Unlimited Class of La Carrera Panamericana, well, the latter is the legal, danger-laden grand-daddy of vintage car road racing down in Mexico, and the former is the all-new modern car class within it pioneered by Team Polizei’s old friends Bret Haller & Kevin Ward. I’ve shared roadway with Bret in Bullrun’s early days, and Kevin just so happens to know a thing or two about racing and making one of the gorgeous racing movies of all time, so the Unlimited is one event I’m sad to have to miss…this year. I promised Bret I’d make it this time, and my book tour was the only excuse he’d accept.

Alex Roy On New Radar Detectors - The First Non-BS Features since 1992? Or…(Part 1)

Today Autoblog covered the release of the a new radar detector from Cobra with the first useful new feature I’ve seen since 1992 - a built-in GPS. Cobra isn’t the first to add GPS, for Beltronics and Escort’s latest models do so as well, but their new XRS-R9G rounds out GPS features among the big three US detector vendors. Interestingly, Valentine Research trusty V1 - the detector of choice among hard core drivers - does not, but Valentine, privately held by Michael Valentine (the genius behind the original Cincinnati Microwave Escort waaaaaaay back in the day), presumably remains - with but a single model in their line-up - presumably smaller than his competitors in the radar/laser detection market.

GPS functionality has grown common among UK detectors, yet although I’m convinced of its utter necessity if implemented correctly, I’m still not convinced it’s time to replace my V1.

Why?
